 HAPPY NEW YEAR #352003-12-31

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!
MDL1 is Apron Tutorials first 3D skeletal animation format modified by Ronny André Reierstad. The 3D Model 1 format called MDL1 is actually a converted Milkshape 3D ASCII format. You will be able to load, import or create your own 3D models and animations with the popular Milkshape 3D editor and export as Milkshape 3D ASCII (*.txt) files. After you have exported a MS3D ASCII file you can use the freeware TXT2MDL1 Converter to convert the file to the MDL1 format.

The MDL1 format is Apron Tutorials first animation format unlike MDL2 it uses linear interpolation.. click here to read more about it!

THE DIRECT3D SECTION IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The Direct3D section is still under construction! For you this means that you will not be able to download the source code until I’m finished commenting the code.. I have upgraded all the Direct3D demos to DX9. I’m coding and structuring the Direct3D and OpenGL sections as similar as possible, and I’m very pleased with how the two sections are turning out.. The plan is: If you know how to use one of the APIs it should only take few hours for you to learn how to use the other (with the help of Apron Tutorials). I must say that I still like the structure and simplicity of OpenGL best.. But the last month I have been digging deeper into Direct3D. Direct3D have loads of new features and effects that is fairly simple to use. Direct3D also have a lot of pre-made extra functions . In OpenGL you have to create these functions yourself, with the help of the API and extensions.

Please download and test the Direct3D demos and let me know (in the Forum) if you can find anything wrong. You will need DirectX SDK or Runtime version 9.0.

THE NEW WEB DESIGN IS FINALLY HERE #332003-12-11

NEW DESIGN:
Our new web design is finally finished and we have started to add some highlighted code in the OpenGL section. We have also done some new forum changes.

C++:
Vernon S. Brown writes: This is the link to my sample C++ code. Hope it helps someone! http://www.vsbrown.com/pages/code/cplusplus/index.asp

MMORPG:
Christopher Westbrook writes: We are making a MMORPG with a good group of people, we are developing our own game engine. It is going to be like everquest or any other MMORPG. Ideas are not somthing that we lack, we have such a great group of minds, everything from hardcore DnD, to Everquest nuts (yes they STILL play) We of course will have our uniqueness to our game. Our Team right now is about 5 people. Most of us work at Hewlett-Packard and our age ranges from 20-38. (We also have a group of over 20 people that want to help, but we are trying to start small.) Check out our public forum http://www.tri-des.net

 SHADOW BLADE NEWS #232003-10-15

SHADOW BLADE:

The planning of the 3D game demo "Shadow Blade" started in early December 2002. I wanted to create a game demo more advanced than I had ever done before... Something with a futuristic design and a powerful "feel". I wanted the demo to contain several aspects(see list below). I had been working on some of these before, but some were just research material or theory that I hoped to finish in time... The plan was to finish the project by the end of the summer 2003. Since level desiging and modeling takes a lot of time to do alone, I decided to create a small level like an arena. I wanted the demo to take place both indoor and outdoor. I did this by setting up "walls" around most of the arena. This way I could limit the view of the camera, and limit the use of polygons.

Go check it out!

TIME BASED MOVEMENT - ELLIPSOID COLLISION #272003-01-19

OPENGL NEWS:

I have modified my ellipsoid collision demo, and implemented time based movement.

This project demonstrates how accurate an ellipsoid collision test can be in both complicated terrain and simple landscape. What you will see is a tiny part of my graduate project at HiA called "Game Environment". The original "Game Environment" is larger then 70 Mb so naturally had to change a lot to get it down to only 2 Mb. I removed most of the original objects, but I have kept a little part of the "building" and most of the island.

Controls:
Use Mouse and WASD keys to move around, hold down shift and W ro run.
Press numbers on keyboard 2, 3, 4 and 5 to toggle view modes.
Press 1 to start lady AI.

I haven't been able to test this new version on more than two different computers,
so please let me know what you think.

The objects is created with 3D Studio Max and exported as 3ds.

The last picture is taken from my character shadow project.
What can I say it just looks great : )

Check it out under the OpenGL section.
